Cinema no Estendal/Cinema on the Washing Line is a cinema for the streets. We celebrate neighbourhood life, the art of short films, the occupation of public space, and the neighbour's underwear.

Cinema no Estendal is a cinema for the streets. The screen travels throughout washing lines in different streets, squares, alleys and stairways of Portugal, to celebrate life in neighbourhoods and small towns, in exclusively open-air screenings.

By holding open-air film screenings, the aim is to reclaim the use of public space as a community meeting point through culture and audiovisual art, as well as to recognize the value of cinema as a social transformer.

The goal of Cinema no Estendal is to produce culture outside conventional settings, contributing to a more balanced and democratic society. This project aims to bring cinema to the streets, creating an enriching experience for both the residents of different localities and the young filmmakers who present their films to diverse audiences. Bringing themes and topics of contemporary society to the forefront of the screen is, and has been, a common thread in all editions of CNE. Cinematic works are presented that reflect on and portray the surrounding society, offering a critical, comedic, or observational perspective on it. Therefore, whenever possible, filmmakers are invited to attend the screenings, thus establishing a dialogue between those who create the films and those who watch them.
